Frequently asked questions

Who can apply for the Action Bike Scheme?

Conditions for participating in the bike scheme:

  1. You are an Action employee working under an employment contract with Action.
  2. You fall under the employment conditions regulation (AVR).
  3. You have been employed by Action in the Netherlands for at least one year.
  4. The distance between your home address and fixed work location is a maximum of 20 km (the fastest cycling route according to Google Maps applies). The distance is checked at the time the order is placed.
  5. The lease costs will be deducted from your net salary.
  6. You are not eligible for a company car according to the Action Company Car Policy.

What are the options regarding to insurance & maintenance?

Taking out a service package with a lease contract is mandatory. The service package includes insurance, 24/7 roadside assistance, and a maintenance package. You can choose from different packages, including the Basic or Standard package. For more information about the packages and their conditions, please refer to the Lease a Bike website.

Note: Keep in mind that the chosen service package cannot be changed during the 36-month lease contract.

For maintenance, repairs, and tire replacements, you can go to the bike shop where you ordered the bike or any bike shop affiliated with Lease a Bike. If you exceed the credit of the Basic or Standard package, you will pay the extra costs directly to the bike shop.

What happens to the commute allowance?

If you currently receive a commute allowance, it will be suspended during the lease contract period. However, you can claim the 'bad weather allowance' up to 15 times per calendar year, as detailed in the table below. This allowance is equivalent to the current commute allowance and applies only to distances of 10 to 20 kilometres.

For more information, please refer to the Action Bike Scheme (see downloads).

Will I get a BKR registration if I participate in the bike scheme?

No, participating in the bike scheme will not result in a BKR (Credit Registration Office) registration. The leased bike is provided to you through Action.

My bike is not listed in the Lease a Bike catalog. Can I still lease it?

If your preferred bike is not listed in the Lease a Bike catalogue, you can submit a request to Lease a Bike to have it added. Lease a Bike will then assess whether it is possible to include your desired bike and, if so, under any additional conditions. This way, you can still order the bike you want.

Can I trade in my old bike at the bike shop to reduce the retail price of my leased bike?

Yes, you can trade in your old bike at the bike shop to reduce the retail price of your leased bike. However, keep the following points in mind:

  1. Insurance Considerations: The bike is insured for its retail price. If you trade in your old bike, the retail price of your new bike will be lower. This means that if your new bike is stolen, the insurance payout will be based on the reduced retail price, potentially making it difficult to replace with an equivalent model.
  2. Financial Advantage: It is generally more advantageous to handle the trade-in outside the leasing platform. For example, if the value of your old bike is €500, you can process this as a discount on your lease price. However, the reduction in your lease price will not directly match the €500 due to leasing costs. Therefore, it is smarter to receive the €500 in cash from the bike shop and lease the new bike at its full retail price. This approach ensures you get the full value of your trade-in without affecting the insurance coverage or leasing terms.

Can I include accessories in the lease contract?

Yes, accessories can be included in the lease contract. This includes items such as a bike bag, child seat, helmet, and lock. However, rain and cycling clothing, as well as bike computers, are excluded. The total cost of the accessories cannot exceed 15% of the recommended retail price of the leased bike.

Please note:Accessories can only be included at the start of the lease contract. Once the lease term has begun, you cannot add accessories to the contract.

Further details and conditions for purchasing accessories can be found on the Lease a Bike platform.

What happens to my lease contract if I retire during the term of the lease?

If you retire before the end of the lease contract, the lease contract will be terminated early. In this case, you have two options:

  1. Purchase the Bike: You owe Lease a Bike the remaining lease payments plus the current market value of the bike at that time (approximately 20% of the new value). Service and insurance costs are not calculated over the remaining lease terms (approximately €21 per period).
  2. Return the Bike: You owe Lease a Bike the remaining lease payments, and the bike needs to be returned to an affiliated bike shop.

For more detailed information on these options, please refer to Chapter 6 in the Action Bike Scheme (see downloads).

If I lease my bike from bike shop X, am I required to have service and maintenance performed at that same shop?

No, you are not required to have service and maintenance performed at the same shop where you leased your bike. You can go to any Lease a Bike affiliated shop for service and maintenance. Using your bike's frame number, the shop staff can directly process the costs of maintenance against your annual budget.

What is the phone number for the ANWB 24/7 roadside assistance service?

The phone number is (+31) 592-390471.

What happens when the lease contract of 36 months ends?

Four weeks before the expiration of the 36-month lease contract, you will receive an email with an offer to purchase the bike for its current market value (approximately 20% of the retail price).

Action is not involved in the purchase process; this is a matter between you and Lease a Bike. You should pay the purchase price directly to Lease a Bike via a bank transfer. Purchasing the bike after the regular lease term of 36 months falls under the Standard Acquisition Scheme.

If you choose not to purchase the bike, you are required to return it to the bike shop at the end of the lease contract for a final inspection. The bike shop will document the condition of the leased bike in an inspection form. Both you and the bike shop will sign this document

Further terms of the Standard Acquisition Scheme and the return protocol can be found on the Lease a Bike platform.
